Rotimi Akinnire (b. 1971) is a Nigerian painter whose work invites deep contemplation through immersive, dreamlike landscapes. A graduate of the Institute of Textile Technology, Art & Design in Lagos, Akinnire draws from a lifelong connection to nature and a childhood shaped by creative influence. His father was both a draughtsman and architect. Early experiences wandering the countryside with his grandmother instilled in him a reverence for natural forms, which now appear in his paintings as serene forests, luminous glades, and quiet bodies of water.
Known for his mastery of color, light, and atmosphere, Akinnire renders scenes where trees seem to whisper and sunlight filters softly through leaves, evoking a sense of sacred stillness. Subtle human forms often emerge from his landscapes, challenging the viewer to look again and consider our place within the natural world. His work serves as a gentle but powerful reminder of our shared bond with nature and the need to cherish and protect it.
Akinnire has exhibited widely in Nigeria and abroad, with over eleven group exhibitions to his name. His paintings are held in private collections both locally and internationally. He lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria.
