Meet our founder

Adekepemi Aderemi

I’m Adekepemi Aderemi, the founder of Art Cadre Gallery, which I established in 2023 to create a space where artists can thrive without exploitation, connect with their audience, and find real opportunities for growth. Art has always been my way of making sense of the world—a journey of self-discovery and self-expression that has shaped not just my career but my identity.

My artistic journey began with observing and recreating my surroundings in a way that felt personal and true to me. Through my work, I have built a space where I finally feel like I belong. My debut exhibition, “Portals” at Alara, was filled with deep, brooding colors and circular patterns, reflecting my evolving emotions and outlook on life. Since then, my work has continued to shift and grow, mirroring my own transformation.

I studied Textiles at the University of Loughborough School of Art and Design, where I developed expertise in drawing, painting, mark-making, machine stitching, and linoleum printing. These techniques have become an integral part of my creative process, alongside my increasing focus on large-scale paintings on canvas.

Curating my first exhibition, where I also showcased my own pieces, was a turning point. It pushed me to explore figurative expression, a shift from my usual abstract work. In a way, this transition encourages others to do what I’ve done—look beyond themselves and see the deeper stories within art.

For me, art is raw, honest, and deeply personal. It allows me to express things I might struggle to say in everyday life. I want those who follow my journey to see not just the finished works but the process—the breakthroughs, the growth, and the self-reflection. If my work can offer reassurance to even one person, a reminder that it is possible to emerge from dark spaces, then I’ve done what I set out to do.

My latest collection is an experiment in texture and form, drawing inspiration from tree bark—an homage to where I started, with muted palettes and dark canvases, but also a reflection of where I am now: evolving, grounded, and growing.
